I’m thrilled to share that my book, “The Glassmaker’s Son: Looking for the World My Father Left Behind in Nazi Germany,” was recently published by Amsterdam Publishers.
A blend of memoir and history, "Glassmaker" recounts my decades-long quest to discover the world my father left behind in Nazi Germany. Along the way I make some surprising discoveries about my father's family, who were important players in the Bavarian glassmaking industry. After my grandfather was forced to sell the family villa, for example, the Nazis turned it into their regional headquarters before it was destroyed by American artillery in the closing days of the war. At its core, "Glassmaker" is about a search for identity — the identity of my soft-spoken, inscrutable father, Robert Cooper, and of myself. There are some passages in the book that refer to my early years in Hamden. BTW, for those who don’t recognize my name, my surname used to be “Cooper“ before I changed it to my father’s original name, “Kupfer,” in the 1980s. Thanks, Peter The Glassmaker's Son |
