Carol Paffumi Mandell (before 2022)
As you all may know I am a veterinarian here in California. I was finishing up my day shift in an emergency clinic in Sacramento in about 2008. I was relieved by the 30-something night shift doctor, Dr. Dan Kittel. I asked him a few questions since I had never met him before. He said he graduated from vet school from Oklahoma State but that he was not from Oklahoma. He volunteered that he was from Connecticut. Connecticut? What town? Hamden! (I took a step back in disbelief). I grew up in Hamden, I said. He went to Hamden High when Mr. Pfeffer was principal. I told him Mr. Pfeffer was my history teacher! He lived on the side of town where St. Rita's Church is located. What's more: he was dating a friend of mine here in Sacramento and subsequently married her. Small world.
Currently, I own my own veterinary practice in West Sacramento (for 9 years now) and am still having a good time, "saving feline & canine lives". I have no intention of retiring any time soon.
To Mr. Pfeffer: Thank you for the solid foundation in American History. Your class and History Honors still resonates with me to this day. I still remember days in your class and how you made American history come alive. Thank you for that.
